Our Church Governance
The Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills is part of the Unitarian Universalist Association, which has a rich history of congregational polity. This means that UUCSH or “Sunnyhill” are responsible for the governing of our own congregation through membership in our faith community. UUCSH Members make all decisions for the church, including adopting bylaws, election of the Board of Trustees, adoption of a church budget, and calling a minister.
Church polity requires that all Sunnyhill members share the responsibility for church leadership and direction. We do this through participation in various congregational meetings throughout the year (Budget Meeting in December and Annual Meeting in April), serving on teams and committees, serving on the Board of Trustees, and engaging in the life of the church.
As a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), we benefit from shared resources like training, educational materials, and advocacy, while maintaining full independence in how our congregation is governed.
